BYO - US Reduces

Our mission is to empower individuals and communities to enact positive changes by embracing sustainable practices and minimizing waste.

Our central mission revolves around cultivating an everyday zero waste culture while advocating for essential policy shifts. We initiate our efforts by prioritizing the support of local groups committed to promoting the concept of BYO (Bring Your Own). The acronym BYO encompasses a diverse array of elements – C for containers, M for mugs, U for utensils, and N for napkins – each offering a multitude of possibilities. As fervent proponents of the BYO movement in the United States, we stand as champions of community, climate action, and environmental justice. We partner with our international counterparts, Canada Reduces and Australia’s BYO Containers.

At our core, we are dedicated to providing reliable support to local groups throughout the United States that are embarking on BYO campaigns, fostering a sense of unity and collaboration. Acknowledging the United States’ less-than-satisfactory standing among developed nations in endorsing BYO practices, our long-term mission is to reshape this landscape. Our ambition is to be a catalyst for change, actively engaging in policy advocacy for BYO and effecting revisions to food and sanitary codes at local, state, and federal levels.

In tandem with our BYO promotion, we enthusiastically encourage local groups to explore an array of zero waste initiatives, including composting, sewing bees, film screenings, festival tabling, fix-it clinics, and more. The possibilities for Waste Reducers are boundless. Our expansive network serves as a foundation of support, empowering grassroots community leaders to navigate challenges, exchange invaluable experiences, and flourish on their collective path towards sustainability. Join us as we co-create a future where waste reduction is not just a concept, but a way of life. Together, we can turn possibilities into sustainable realities.
