Streets Is Watching Community Patrol Program
Our communities are our responsibilities & New Era's "Streets Is Watching" program is the epitome of that. For the first time since 2016, the City of Detroit reported more than 300 homicides in the FBI's annual crime report, with 328 homicides in 2020. That's a 17% increase from 2019, which had 280 homicides. Violent crimes have been showing a pattern of increasing & the police can not be everywhere at all times to prevent crimes but when the community steps up to show support for the people who live inside of it, criminals are deterred from committing crimes in plain sight. With the help of neighborhood recruits & organization members, we canvass different areas on patrol at night. Paying special attention to bus stops & neighborhoods with limited lighting. Our goal is to make sure that the women, children & elderly in our city feel safe in the communities that they live in.
